
Carolyn Comer
President Shell Energy Americas
Carolyn is President, Shell Energy North America and Chairman of the Board of Shell Trading Risk Management, bringing more than three decades of experience to her current role, where she holds accountability for Shell’s gas, power and environmental products wholesale marketing and trading business in the Americas.
Carolyn started her working career in an NGO and went on to join a small chemical distributor in Ireland. She relocated to the UK to spearhead expansion into the UK market and became Managing Director of Healy Chemicals UK in the mid-90s. She joined Shell in 1998 and undertook commercial and change leadership roles across a number of Shell’s Downstream marketing businesses, including Lubricants, Specialties, Commercial Fuels and Marine. Her roles in Shell have spanned multiple geographies including UK, Ireland, Norway, Netherlands and the USA.
In 2011, Carolyn moved into Trading & Supply, where she held senior leadership positions leading business through major transformations. She moved from oil to energy trading and relocated to Houston, Texas in 2015. She has been instrumental in driving key strategic growth initiatives, including the successful new market entry into Brazil and starting up Shell’s direct energy retailing division.
Prior to her current role, Carolyn was Vice President Downstream Strategy & Portfolio, where she played a critical role in the creation of Shell’s Powering Progress strategy – to purposefully and profitably accelerate Shell toward a net-zero emissions business. She now leads one of the top three gas and power wholesalers in North America, ensuring that Powering Progress becomes a reality.
