Senior executive, lawyer and policy advocate with over 30 years experience in the energy industry, most recently leading the development of US climate policy for bp as its VP and Head of Policy and regulatory affairs during the Obama and Trump Administrations.

From 2008-2014, served as Associate General Counsel leading bp’s global health, safety and environmental legal team, with lead responsibility for environmental legal matters arising from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, including: engagement with federal agencies (e.g. DOJ, EPA, DOI, NOAA); Congressional investigations and hearings; board reporting and governance for bp’s US and global boards; natural resource damages; suspension and debarment from government contracting; and legal advice to the Bly investigation team (bp’s non-privileged internal investigation into the causes of the tragedy).

Developed deep but diverse professional and leadership expertise over more than three decades as a global law firm litigation associate and partner; in-house litigation counsel; Western Hemisphere Compliance Director; and legal manager responsible for practice areas ranging from board and subsidiary governance, antitrust and competition, Congressional investigations, advertising, franchise, anti-corruption, and trade controls.

Strong interest and skills in communicating, collaborating, and managing issues across diverse organizations and cultures developed from multiple global supervisory and advisory roles, notably including an assignment at bp’s London headquarters to develop a new global compliance & ethics function and code of conduct and help roll it out worldwide.
