Dan Brouillette is a distinguished leader in the energy, finance, and automotive business sectors, who most recently served as President of Sempra Infrastructure (SI), a globally recognized company leading a transition to cleaner forms energy through the development of robust energy infrastructure networks and pioneering net-zero LNG solutions. Established as a subsidiary of Sempra Energy in 2021, SI has rapidly grown to an impressive valuation of nearly $30 billion under Dan’s leadership, securing record breaking agreements with purchasers of U.S. LNG around the world, including a 5 million ton per annum contract with ConocoPhillips. In 2023, the firm reached a monumental final investment decision to develop a $13 billion LNG export facility in Port Arthur, Texas and construction on that facility commenced on May 20, 2023.
Effective October 1, 2023, Dan became the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the nation’s preeminent thought leader and policy organization for both domestic and international investor-owned utilities.
Before his impactful tenure at Sempra, Brouillette served as the 15th United States Secretary of Energy. Brouillette also served as the Deputy Secretary of Energy from August 2017 to December 2019, making history as the only individual ever confirmed by the U.S. Senate to hold both positions simultaneously. In both roles Brouillette served as a member of the President’s National Security Council and the Vice President’s National Space Council.
During his tenure as Secretary, Brouillette led transformative advancements in supercomputing, artificial intelligence (AI), quantum information science (QIS) research, and grid-scale energy storage. His unwavering commitment to innovation extended to the development of nuclear fuel sources for NASA and SpaceX missions, as well as the resumption of the nation’s domestic enrichment programs to propel the development of advanced civilian nuclear reactors.
Secretary Brouillette’s diplomatic accomplishments are equally remarkable. He catalyzed and facilitated the first ever energy dialogue between Israel and key Muslim nations, which included Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan, contributing significantly to regional diplomacy and normalization efforts. His initiative to orchestrate head-of-state discussions between the United States, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and other OPEC nations during the COVID-19 pandemic helped avert a global energy crisis and safeguard vital American interests.
n recognition of his exemplary service and diplomatic achievements, Secretary Brouillette received Distinguished Public Service medals from both the U.S. Secretary of Defense and the U.S. Secretary of State, the highest award an individual can receive by either department. He was also honored as a distinguished alumnus of the University of Maryland and awarded an honorary doctorate of public administration from the University of South Carolina.
Before his tenure at the Department of Energy, Brouillette held senior executive positions at USAA, the nation’s largest provider of financial services to the military community, and at Ford Motor Company, where he served on the automaker’s North American Operating Committee. Dan Brouillette’s diverse background includes military service as a former tank commander with the U.S. Army’s highly decorated 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He holds a master’s degree in intelligence and national security from The Citadel, a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland and is currently pursuing an MBA at Tulane University. Additionally, he has served as a guest lecturer at the National War College and the Army War College.
