President, Sempra LNG & Midstream
Octávio M. C. Simões is president of Sempra LNG & Midstream, where he directs all LNG and related midstream operations. Sempra LNG & Midstream leads Sempra Energy’s efforts to develop and build liquefied natural gas receipt terminals, liquefaction facilities and integrated midstream natural gas infrastructure. Sempra LNG & Midstream is active in the sale of LNG worldwide.
Previously, Simões was the vice president of commercial and development for Sempra LNG where he was responsible for marketing the capacity of LNG receipt terminals, developing LNG facilities, securing LNG supply and shipping, as well as acquiring equity positions in liquefaction plants.
Prior to that, Simões served as vice president of asset management and vice president of planning & analysis for Sempra Generation. He was also project director for the company’s 600 megawatt Termoeléctrica de Mexicali natural gas power plant in Baja California, Mexico
Before joining Sempra Energy, Simões served as senior program director for Earth Tech, as well as director of generation projects for NEERI.
Simões has more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry, serving as a project manager, project developer, consultant and asset manager in the United States, Latin America and Europe.
Simões holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Massachusetts.
