Michael Whalen, Managing Director, Berkeley Research Group LLC – Most recently a senior advisor to the US Department of Transportation’s Build America Bureau, Michael has more than 25 years of global experience in advising, structuring, and raising finance for capital-intensive infrastructure projects across multiple sectors. He has served in several leadership roles in the commercial, financial and public sectors — as a Chief Financial Officer, head of a global bank’s regional project finance division, and head of international structured finance divisions at two U.S. government agencies. Michael has led, structured, and restructured complex financing transactions and advised clients in introducing innovative technologies and business plans to debt and equity investors, He has led project financings for companies and projects in the global LNG, renewable energy, transportation infrastructure, petrochemicals, and industrial process sectors. He has had key roles at organizations such as HSBC, Bank of America, Mobil, SolarReserve, OPIC, and EXIM Bank.. Michael has an MBA and BA from the University of Texas at Austin.
