Israel Hurtado

President, Mexican Academy of Energy Law (AMDE)

Bachelors in Law and Legal Sciences Degree at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. (1987-1992). Israel Hurtado also obtained Masters Degree in Private International Law at the same University (1995-1996) and a Graduate Degree in Administration and Financial Decisions (1996) at Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.

With vast experience within the public and private sector, Mr. Hurtado acted as Secretary of the Board of Directors at Mexican Petroleum (Petróleos Mexicanos) and as Secretary of the Governing Board at Electricity Federal Commission (Comisión Federal de Electricidad).

Inside the Federal Government he was entrusted to act as Legal Matters Unit General Counsel at the Ministry of Energy. He also obtained a position as Director General of Institutional Communication as well as Director General at the Legislative Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communication.

Concerning academic activities, Mr. Hurtado has been Professor at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León´s Law Faculty. He is also Columnist of El Porvenir and Milenio Diario newspapers. Member of prominent energy associations such as Mexican Energy Law Academy; Association of International Petroleum Negotiators and National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners.

Mr. Hurtado has been appointed by the President of Mexico as one of the Commissioners of Mexico´s Energy Regulatory Commission in 2006.
He is Director of the Mexican Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy, ASOLMEX. www.asolmex.org

He is Coordinator and Professor of the Diploma in Energy Law at the Free Law School and the University of Monterrey.
He is on the Advisory Board of the Energy Regulatory Commission in oil, natural, oil, gas and petrochemical bioenergy
He coordinated an outstanding group of lawyers specializing in energy to create the first specialized in Energy Law for UNAM in Mexico and the first graduate of Energy Law at the Free Law School.

Similarly he participated in the creation of the contents of the related master at the University of Monterrey and the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon.

Part of the Mexican Bar Association and a member of the International Association of Petroleum Negotiators, among other associations.
