Mr. Morton has a diverse background. He began his oil industry career in 1982 after graduating from Brigham Young University with an Engineering Geology degree, spending six years with Texaco as a geophysicist. He received his MBA in Finance in 1985 and a law degree in 1988, both from the University of Houston. After working for a major New York law firm in oil and gas related mergers and acquisitions, Mr. Morton joined Pogo Producing Company in 1993 where, among other position, he served as Vice President – Law and Corporate Secretary. Mr Morton assumed an operational role in 2003 as Pogo’s Senior VP over its Asia and Pacific operations which were located in Thailand, New Zealand and Vietnam.

Mr. Morton joined Carrizo Oil & Gas, Inc. in 2008 as General Counsel and Vice President of Business Development. Since joining Carrizo, Mr. Morton has been heavily involved in negotiating its US joint ventures with international partners Sumitomo in the Barnett Shale, Reliance Industries in the Marcellus Shale, GAIL Ltd. in the Eagle Ford Shale, and Oil India Ltd., Indian Oil Corporation and Lanzhou Haimo Technologies Ltd. in the Niobrara. He has also worked on major acquisitions and divestitures, as well as securities offerings for Carrizo and in reviewing opportunities for Carrizo to apply its shale gas expertise outside the United States.
