John McCarrick

Deputy Assistant Secretary, U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Energy Resources

John McCarrick has served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources since July 2017. In this role, he leads energy policy initiatives and execution of those policies to advance America’s energy security and interests.

He previously advised institutional investors on policy and political risk in energy and related sectors. He practiced corporate law at Hogan & Hartson (now Hogan Lovells) and also worked as in-house counsel at both public and privately held companies. Prior to that, he was an investment banker at Merrill Lynch and also served in the Office of the Independent Counsel. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law Center.
