Our Philosophy, Mission, & Community

Background Lines

(01) Our Mission:
Powering Progress for a
Lower-Carbon Future

At the center of today’s global energy conversation is a difficult equation: How do we provide secure, reliable, and affordable energy while significantly reducing emissions? Energy Dialogues helps answer this question by convening a powerful network of stakeholders—industry, policy, finance, and technology—for direct, solutions-oriented dialogue.

Our role is not to advocate for one path, but to foster understanding across many.

(02) Our Foundation and Reach: Global Perspective, North American Roots

Founded in North America and grounded in its leadership across natural gas, LNG, infrastructure, and policy, Energy Dialogues bridges regional insight with international impact. From Texas to British Columbia, Silicon Valley to Washington D.C., Mexico City to San Diego, Energy Dialogues connects decision-makers shaping the future of global energy. Our platform spans borders and reflects the international nature of today’s energy challenges.

2013

Energy Dialogues is founded

  • Launch of the North American Gas Forum in Washington, D.C.
  • Born from a need to move beyond echo chambers and bring together a fragmented natural gas industry.
  • Focused on convening the full energy value chain – connecting stakeholders who don’t usually speak but should – and enabling dialogue across differing viewpoints to work toward forward-thinking solutions.
2014-2016

Establishing a Trusted Platform

  • North American Gas Forum grows in scope and influence, attracting diverse voices from across industry, policy, academia, and finance.
  • In response to Mexico’s landmark energy reform, the Mexican Energy Forum launches in Mexico City, uniting policymakers, regulators, and investors to shape the country’s evolving energy landscape.
  • The conversation deepens, expanding beyond natural gas and LNG to include a broader range of energy sources and perspectives – further advancing Energy Dialogues’ mission to foster better, more inclusive dialogue across the sector.
2017-2019

Energy Leaders Series takes shape

  • The Energy Leaders Series emerges as an exclusive, invitation-only forum held at top universities, where influential voices from across the energy spectrum come together under the Chatham House Rule.
  • Designed for candid, solution-driven dialogue, the series cultivates meaningful exchange and collaboration among leaders shaping the future of energy.
  • The main Energy Dialogues fora continue to expand, amplifying their mission to foster better dialogue, deeper understanding, and collaboration across the global energy community.
2020

Virtual pivot during COVID-19

  • As the world slows, Energy Dialogues adapts, shifting from in-person fora to curated virtual conversations that keep dialogue alive.
  • These digital gatherings continue to connect voices across the energy spectrum, ensuring collaboration, and momentum through uncertainty.
  • The pivot underscores an unwavering commitment to collaboration and critical dialogue, even amid global disruption.
2021-2022

In-person events resume + student engagement begins

  • Fora return stronger, with a refreshed emphasis on energy transition, reliability, and emissions.
  • In response to growing momentum around energy innovation and infrastructure in the Permian Basin, the Permian Energy Dialogues launches in Midland, bringing together regional operators, policymakers, and technology leaders to advance practical solutions for reliable, lower-emission energy development.
  • A new student cohort model is launched, bringing emerging voices into the room alongside industry leaders. The initiative marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to cultivating the next generation of energy leaders.
2023

Launch of the Energy Dialogues Collaborative

  • A year-round membership platform launches, creating ongoing opportunities for engagement, insight sharing, and collaboration beyond the fora.
  • The Energy Perspectives Podcast debuts, extending Energy Dialogues’ conversations to a global audience and amplifying diverse leadership voices.
  • NextGen student cohorts are introduced at the North American Gas Forum, later expanding to additional events to strengthen next-generation engagement across the energy community.
2024

Launch of the Carbon Solutions Forum – La Jolla

  • Created to focus specifically on actionable decarbonization strategies and technologies, including CCS, hydrogen, and low-carbon fuels.
  • Continued expansion of student cohort and alumni network, with increased representation of international perspectives.
2025 (present)

Scaling and deepening the dialogue

  • Fora now include Carbon Solutions Forum, Permian Energy Dialogues, and North American Gas Forum, each with a distinct but interconnected focus.
  • Topics span AI/data center energy demand, LNG exports, emissions reduction, and energy security.
  • Stronger alignment with sponsors through next-gen talent engagement, collaborative content, and meaningful student participation.

Our Growth and Impact

(03) Beyond Dialogue:
Building Community, Driving Momentum

Energy Dialogues is more than a forum host. We’re a convening force – a platform that drives sustained momentum through curated, year-round engagement. We are a catalyst for action, and a community of leaders committed to shaping the future of energy together. We convene the stakeholders who don’t always meet, and perspectives that don’t always align, but must engage to move the energy system forward.

What Sets Us Apart?

01

Curated conversations that focus on what’s actionable.

02

Cross-sector engagement that challenges assumptions.

03

Follow-through mechanisms that turn dialogue into momentum.

The spirit of collaboration doesn’t end when the event does. Through our membership, private briefings, and tailored working groups, we extend the conversations started in the room into ongoing partnerships that drive measurable progress.

Bena Leslie

At the core of it all is a shared commitment: advancing secure, affordable, and lower-emission energy through pragmatic, collective action.
