Carlos Alvarez, Managing Director, is part of the BlackRock Infrastructure Investment Group (BIIG) in Mexico.

Mr. Alvarez is responsible for originating and executing infrastructure transactions across energy, utilities, transportation, and social sub-sectors, as well as raising capital from global investors for infrastructure investments in Mexico. He also serves as a member of the Mexico Investment Committee.

Prior to joining BlackRock in May 2015, Mr. Alvarez worked for 15 years at InterGen Mexico in roles ranging from Regional Manager to Vice President, spearheading regional strategy and managing a $2.5B portfolio of power plants, compression stations, renewable sources, and gas pipelines. Prior to that, he held a series of roles in the Mexican financial sector at four institutions: sub-director of corporate banking at BankBoston Mexico, structured loans and project finance at Bank of America Mexico, and corporate finance relationship management at Banca Serfin. He began his career at Operadora de Bolsa’s private bank in 1990.

Mr. Alvarez received a BA degree in accounting in 1991 and a Masters in finance in 1995 from ITAM. He has been a board member of the Mexican Energy Association (AME) since 2004, and Vice President of the AME committee that groups the main independent power producers in Mexico since 2012.
