  • Mexico's Energy Expansion to be Fuelled by US Natural Gas

Mexico is emerging as a key new marketplace for US natural gas, as government-backed reforms open up the country’s energy sector to foreign investment for the first time in more than half a century. ICIS energy market experts have highlighted this trend with the launch of a new report focused on Mexico.

Mexico could import up to 13% of current daily US production by the end of the decade, as pipeline projects currently under construction or planned over the next five years will give Mexico up to 10 billion cubic feet per day in natural gas import capacity.[:es]

He revealed that there are currently more than…

  • Tamaulipas, potencial energético

There have been a variety of efforts in recent years to harmonize energy policy and markets across the US, Canada, and Mexico. At the North American Gas Forum meeting this past week in Washington D.C. some of these efforts were discussed.

The most important change in the energy landscape has clearly been the shale boom with surprising production of natural gas and light tight oil using advanced drilling and well stimulation technology. The enormous new supplies of natural gas in the US and Canada have altered long-standing trade flows. Mexico wishes to get in on the act as well since they have large shale plays that have yet to be developed…
